Sex toys are a mechanical device used to stimulate or enhance sexual pleasure. They substitute the husband’s interaction with his wife’s genitals and the wife’s interaction with her husband’s genitals. Sex toys are used to induce an orgasm by masturbating a husband’s or a wife’s genitals mechanically.
Some christians these days claim that it is better to use sex toys as a single or married person to avoid fornication or illicit affair with others but let us check out the biblical remedy that God prescribes through Apostle Paul when asked on how to avoid immorality.
1 Corinthians 7:2 CSB
But because sexual immorality is so common, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife and each woman should have sexual relations with her own husband.
This implies that if a man is struggling with immoralities or sexual desires, he should marry. That is, get a legal partner to satisfy their sexual desires with, through marriage.
The implication is that sexual activity should be with a wife or a husband and not by oneself . Apostle Paul in this verse and other verses across the Bible could have mentioned that solo masturbation and sex toys such as dildos and vibrators could be used by oneself to avoid fornication.
In fact, when a partner had to fast and avoid sex , it was recommended that the consent of the partner be sought and they come together soon enough to avoid satan’s temptation. Wouldn’t it have made sense for paul to say “ you just improvise when your spouse is not available for sexual relations so that satan won’t tempt you”. But no! It was not an option because sexual pleasure is designed to be between the couple and not a solo action.
If you are single for one reason or the other, you are expected to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. 1Corinthians 7:34

Sex toys were never mentioned categorically in the Bible. The reasons why some christians claim to use them, one of which is to avoid fornication, has a biblical antidote of legally marrying a partner to satisfy each other.
It is expedient to note that sex toys have adverse effects too;
- Extensive use of vibrators can sometimes cause numbness of the genitals in women and loss of sensitivity and an increased inability to achieve an orgasm naturally.
- Also, a dildo or a vibrator that is inserted into a vagina gets stuck in there if it slips in too far.
An estimated 6,800 people showed up in U.S. hospitals between 1995 and 2006 with a sex toy emergency, according to a 2009 study published in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy. Doctors have had to pull vibrators or dildos from private parts.
- Some are made of materials not easy to clean , as such can harbour bacteria. This can later lead to bacterial infections.
- Most of them contain phthalates. Phthalates are included in plastics to make them harder and flexible. Phthalates have adverse effects on human health and are known for affecting the reproductive system. This is why they are banned in some nations. Phthalates can also lead to abnormal cellular changes or initiate cancer.
In conclusion, our creator’s design is for two people of the opposite sex, legally joined in Holy matrimony to enjoy sex and ravish one another . Looking at the genital biology, you see how each part fits in so well . Solo sexual fulfillment by self and sex toys are not recommended for normal use.
Also, Places where sex toys are sold are usually connected with pornography and the like. This should be a warning signal that something isn’t quite right about the concept.
